Who is Cat Whisperer Jackson Galaxy
The cat whisperer
A cat whisperer is generally referred to as someone who is very knowledgeable and skilled in cat behaviours and expressions. In a professional setting, they may be known as a cat behaviourist or therapist because they are good at communicating and working with cats for purposes such as training or pet sitting.
A cat whisperer is somewhat similar to the dog whisperer or horse whisperer, although cat whisperers are very good with cats. These types of people are unusually lucky and very successful with cats. In most cases, a cat is abandoned or just shows up on someone's doorstep. In this case, the cat will adopt that person as the cat whisperer.
Often, alley cats and black cats will show up at someone's house and decide to move into their home. This may be the result of abandonment, or the cat's family may move away and simply leave the cat behind. Sometimes the cat decides it likes someone else's home better and decides to move there instead of staying with its owner.
Many people will tell you that a cat whisperer can be thought of as a therapist for cats. Almost all cat whisperers have no type of training, what they know just seems to come naturally to them. These types of people understand the mindset of a cat and know how to work with the cat to get the results they want. Even though many think that a cat whisperer is a therapist, it couldn't be further from the truth.
Cats that have been abused or mistreated often don't respond to anyone but a cat whisperer. Even if others have tried to help the cat, this only makes things worse by making the cat feel scared and anxious. In most cases, these cats end up in a shelter. This is very tragic as the cats have already been through more than they ever should have. A large percentage of abused cats were once beloved pets. Along the way, they were abandoned, abused, attacked by dogs, and in some cases, tortured.
Cats that have been treated unfairly often no longer trust anyone. They are often confused, in great pain, and don't know what to do. Like humans, cats feel pain. Those that have been physically abused are a sad sight indeed. Emotionally damaged cats may appear in perfect health on the outside, even though their emotions are a wreck. Emotionally abused cats are much harder to reach, especially if they were stray cats to begin with.
Cat whisperers, on the other hand, can communicate with physically and emotionally abused cats. Cats know who they choose to be their cat whisperer, usually it is a person they feel trust in. Cat whisperers are common among cats, although most people have never heard of them. Even though a cat whisperer is able to communicate better with cats, it will still take time to heal an abused cat.
Jackson Galaxy says that society's attitude toward cats has changed dramatically since he began working with them. The cat behaviorist hosts the long-running Animal Planet show "My Cat From Hell" and has celebrity clients who proudly talk about their experiences with him.
On what people still think wrong about cats...
"They think they're failed dogs," Galaxy said. "They still look at cats through dog-colored glasses, and I think that's the biggest problem I've seen consistently."
Trying to force cats into a dog-shaped hole is a "disservice" that only leads to confusion and disappointment, he added. Humans have selectively bred dogs for human-friendly traits for thousands of years. By comparison, cats have largely domesticated themselves - on their own terms - and they have much more in common genetically with their wild ancestors than dogs do with theirs.
"[The] purpose of cats on Earth is not to make you happy," he said. "That sounds sarcastic, but it's not."
Cats can and do bond strongly with humans - people just need to recognize what cat love looks like.
On recognizing cat love...
All cats are different, and they express their love in different ways.
"There are many cats for whom sleeping at the foot of your bed is an incredibly high compliment," Galaxy said. "And some sleep on your face. They're different personalities."
Wow!. A game changer of a book Total Cat Mojo. As someone who’s always had an affinity for cats, has volunteered in shelters and lived with one amazing rescued feline after another I never paid much attention to “how to understand your cat” books because I didn’t think I needed them - I just paid attention to the cat/s at hand. But Jackson Galaxy eloquently explains an overall compassionate relationship between cats and humans that is the basis for everything else we have to learn/do regarding our feline companions. This isn’t simply a book about how to “solve” your cat’s peeing problem -it’s about the fundamental nature of cats and how humans can embrace that nature for our mutual benefit. And this is such a graceful, compassionate,non-judgemental advocate for all those unloved shelter cats! Actually, I take that back - I don’t think there can be any unloved shelter cats as long as Jackson is out there. This book should be put into the hands of anyone embarking on a relationship with a cat: especially new adopters and anyone working in a shelter. Really, really, really well done. - Michele
ReplyDeleteJackson Galaxy is amazing! My cat is a different animal since I followed Jackson's instructions on how to communicate and respond to my cat! She used to be very aggressive towards me if I picked her up or tried to let her at certain times of the day. Starting with the *slow blink*, my husband and I learned some cat language and realized we were missing so many cues our cat was trying to tell us! We are just her protectors and not her masters! Lily now respects and loves us! She comes to us when we call her! She responds to being let in a positive way! She sleeps in our bed at our feet again after ignoring us for months! We have a really wonderful relationship now and our playtime is so fun! She has even taught ME a few tricks already! I love everything Jackson Galaxy and LOVE this book and if you have ANY cat behavior problems, you need to go to "Cat Daddy" and get the Cat Mojo! AND JACKSON, if you're reading this, I'm sending you a slow wink too! LOL!!!
