In the UK, it's quite common to let cats roam free outdoors. However, with the increasing risks posed by the outside world, more and more pet owners are choosing to keep their cats safe indoors. There are many reasons for the growing number of indoor cats, but the general consensus is that owners keep their cats indoors to ensure their safety. This may be because they live in a busy city with a lot of street traffic, or because they live in an area with neighbour cats that don't get along.
If you've recently gotten a new kitten or cat, you may be wondering what's best for your newest family member - read on to learn more.
4 Advantages of indoor cats
If you choose to keep an indoor cat, there are numerous advantages. Some of them to consider are:
1 Keep them away from outdoor hazards.
This is the main reason why owners choose to keep cats indoors. The outdoors poses a plethora of risks to our cats, such as being hit by cars or eating potential hazards they find, such as garden fertiliser or poisonous plants.
2 Protect local wildlife.
If you've ever lived with a cat that goes outside, you're probably no stranger to handing over a dead bird or mouse. Apartment cats are not capable of hunting these animals, but you will need to provide alternative ways to exercise your cat's hunting instincts and keep him entertained.
3 Prevent turf wars.
With increased housing density and many people living in close proximity, cats are forced to share their territory with other cats. As territorial creatures, this is not good for our cats and fights can occur. Keeping cats indoors can prevent these fights and help your cat feel safer by having their own secluded territory.
4 Reduce injuries and hazards.
Another important benefit is that because they are less likely to fight with other cats, they are also less likely to get injured or come into contact with certain diseases that are transmitted between cats, such as FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). But even if you have an indoor cat, you need to make sure their cat vaccinations are up to date.

The cat likes the cube and it is cute. There were quite a few pieces to assemble, but I was prepared for that and it wasn't that difficult to assemble. It's sturdy for a cat but I wouldn't expect it to hold a lot of weight like if kids tried to climb on it. The pad is thin, but I wasn't too concerned about that, as my cat likes to sleep up top. - Christine K
ReplyDeleteLiving in an apartment, my kitten doesn’t have much activity space. With that said, she’ll often climb up to surfaces where she shouldn’t be. I bought this product for her to have something to play with and climb on, since she absolutely must be at a higher elevation than me at all times. Since the time of assembly, her desire to climb on other furniture seems to have been greatly reduced. She goes crazy for the bells up top! - Caleb
